The Algarve´s race circuit at Portimao is proud to host the Formula 1 from 23rd -25th October 2020.
Portimao boats a world class facility that actually opened late in 2008, the circuit took just seven months to complete at a cost of €195 Million. Located in the western area of the Algarve the circuit has great transport links and is just 1 hour from the airport at Faro
Portimao is new to the F1 calendar in 2020 and has never hosted a Formula 1 World Championship event. The track was actually used for F1 pre-season testing in the winter of 2008-09.
Although new to the Formula 1 calendar a few of the drivers, including Daniel Ricciardo, Charles Leclerc and Valtteri Bottas, experienced the Portuguese circuit during their junior careers.
How is the circuit?
"Rather like Austin’s Circuit USA, Portimao is a modern venue with elevation change baked into its layout. The Ricardo Pena-designed 2.9-mile lap sends drivers swooping up hill and down dale, before culminating in a plunge down to the final right-hander at Galp leading back onto the pit straight – with the double-apex, Acque Minerali-evoking Portimao corner a particular highlight."
The Algarve is the perfect venue for such an event and why not make a holiday of it? October is a month of warm sunshine and in general a great time to visit the region.
